La Suède construit des trains à grande vitesse (X 2000) mais ne possède pas les lignes pour les exploiter. Les seules lignes permettant partiellement des vitesses de 200 km/h sont Stockholm - Goteborg et Stockholm - Malmo.
La ligne Malmo Goteborg est en cours de modernisation à grands frais avec en particulier le tunel d'Hallandsas.
Le tunel sous Malmoe a été mis en service fin décembre 2010
La liaison Stockholm - Malmoe gagne 23 minutes et la liason Goteborg - Malmoe 16 minutes
